How adventure centers are adopting touchpoint sanitation.  Blog Post #5 Due: 4/6/21 In the recreation field, especially in ropes courses, there are lots of gear that are used by both participants/staff alike. This can look like shared carabiners, touching the same handholds, climbing on the same ropes, being around other participants in order to solve course challenges. Recreation has adopted this new trend of touch point sanitation which means cleaning just about anything that is common touch oriented. In addition, these centers are investing in more equipment that participants can use their own gear, and not have to share with the neighbor. In addition, this can look like the use of gloves when inspecting the gear of participants when in a staff roll. There is a heightened sense of urgency for sanitation in order for customers to feel safe, and to protect staff.  These new norms are most likely here to stay with stay in regards with the current regulatio

  Human resources, and pay: The things to consider when opening an adventure center.  The recreation industry is usually staffed from part-time workers, as well as seasonal working individuals. When looking at adventure centers that offer high ropes facilities, and other outdoor based activities, finding employees may not be the hardest thing to do. When the pandemic first struck, and high adventure places were looking at losing a spring full of participants they had to shut their doors, and unfortunately turn seasonal workers away. With vaccines, and the pandemic better managed, the spring and summer are looking hopeful. More people are looking to travel to the high country this summer to enjoy the mountains, and all the perks that come with it. With that being said, a high need for employees is present in organizations located near Boone.  Finance it, and they will come? 3/9/21 High adventure parks in the high country are very interesting to look at when, and how they have dealt with Covid-19. As the Boone area has been flexed in case numbers over all after the mandatory shut down everything is coming back to life. Slowly but surely and this is true in high adventure places. The major adventure parks in the area have not closed their doors, but have seen an impact for sure. These places such as Hawksnest zipline, High Gravity Adventure Park, and other areas like this are still running their programs but at a lower capacity. In a different case, the Wilderness Alpine Coaster opened its doors come summer 2020 with booming sales, and participation from the public.                           How feasible is starting a high adventure center in the middle of a pandemic?  The pandemic has thrown a wrench into all of our plans, and made it practically impossible to do all what we want. High adventure places such as High Gravity which is pictured above has done a fantastic job to accommodate to it's customers and allow for a safe place. While High Gravity has a strong customer base and market segment, how well would a new competitor in town do? There are many things that going to feasibility for success but in this blog we will be talking about high adventure, and Covid-19! How are adventure parks handling the pandemic? Nicholas Wartham - 2/9/2021   High adventure centers are in some eyes just like a mini Disney World. They offer activities such as rock climbing, ropes courses, mountain biking, and other fun recreation activities. Locations like this in the Carolinas are the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC), High Gravity, Aerial Adventure Park, as well as ski mountains that open their slopes for biking, and climbing during the summer time. When March hit, things changed and people were to be in quarantine and create their own adventures, but a home. Places like the USNWC, and other ropes course locations closed its doors this spring in fellowship with Roy Cooper’s stay at home order.
